Instagram is a social media powerhouse. The social media platform has a worldwide impact and its users are more engaged than the users on Facebook and Twitter.
Because of this, it stands to reason that a brand that finds followers on Instagram is going to grow. Followers are the way Instagram users make money and the way they make a name for their brand.
But how do you get more followers?
Post Once a Day if Possible
Tailwind App conducted a survey in 2017 and examined 100,000 Instagram posts to determine how often an Instagram user should post.
What it found was the more you post, the more likely you are to get engagement from your followers in the form of likes. That makes sense since your followers have more opportunities to like a photo per week.
But Tailwind also found that user engagement went up when the number of posts went up. If an Instagram user doubled his post rate from two times per week to four times per week, he usually saw an increase of engagement by 19 percent.
And the research also found that the more he posted per week, the quicker his follower count grew.
Choose Awesome Aesthetics
Some pictures are just pictures and then some pictures are visually appealing.
For example, there’s a picture of a dog.
And then there’s a picture of a dog.
They’re both cute, but one is going to make your followers take notice and the other is going to make them move on.
Hashtags are a great way to get you noticed on Instagram, but you need to make sure you use the right ones. #Friday will get you noticed by too many people and most of those people won’t have any use for your Instagram feed.
However, if you use hashtags that are more relevant to your posts and your company, you’re more likely to reach the people that would be most interested in you.
But Don’t Use too Many Hashtags
I know this sounds counterintuitive, but using too many hashtags can be detrimental to your Instagram.
Track Maven did a study and looked at more than 65,000 social media posts. What it found was people who used nine hashtags received the most average engagement per post. More than that saw a drop off in engagement.
Share Follower Content
Sharing follower content makes people feel engaged and involved with you and your brand. When you share the best content from your followers, not only are you engaging with that follower directly, but you’re also letting your other followers know that you’re listening to and looking at them.
Add a Call to Action
Asking your followers to post their favorite vacation photos is a great example of a call to action. Other calls to action include asking a question in your post or asking your followers to tag friends below.
There are plenty of ways to get your followers engaged in your Instagram feed. Engaged followers tell their friends and draw more engaged followers.
Tell a Story
WordStream suggests that you “Get descriptive with your captions.” Use those captions to tell a cool story or share interesting facts. A trip to the zoo isn’t just a trip to the zoo if something amazing happened along the way.
Share a story and a part of yourself.
People who use Instagram follow other users because they provide a form of entertainment. Maybe their photos are unique or funny or beautiful to look at. Maybe you tell great stories. Maybe you make people think.
There are a lot of ways to draw emotion with your Instagram posts and you have to lean into it. It’s the best way to show your true self on Instagram and it’s the best way to gain followers.
